January 2007—“And until we acknowledge that reality, uh, we can send 15,000 more troops; 20,000 more troops; 30,000 more troops. Uh, I don’t know any, uh, expert on the region or any military officer that I’ve spoken to, uh, privately that believes that that is gonna make a substantial difference on the situation on the ground.”
July 2007—“Here’s what we know. The surge has not worked. And they said today, ‘Well, even in September, we’re going to need more time.’ So we’re going to kick this can all the way down to the next president, under the president’s plan... My assessment is that the surge has not worked and we will not see a different report eight weeks from now.”
September 2007—“After putting an additional 30,000 troops in... we have gone from a horrendous situation of violence in Iraq to the same intolerable levels of violence that we had back in June of 2006. So, essentially, after all this we’re back where we were 15 months ago... It is a course that will not succeed.”
January 2008—“I had no doubt, and I said when I opposed the surge, that given how wonderfully our troops perform, if we place 30,000 more troops in there, then we would see an improvement in the security situation and we would see a reduction in the violence.”
Now: “What I said was even at the time of the debate of the surge, was if you put 30,000 troops in, of course it’s going to have an impact. There’s no doubt about that.”

A couple of highly intellectual hollywood types took to airing their respective stupidities this weekend. Yes, that is Sharon Stone. What the hell happened there? Her breasts look like they are doing their damndest to look as detached from the rest of her body as possible.
Anyway, Sharon obviously heard about the earthquake in China and had these deep thoughts to share about it.

And so, I have been very concerned about how to think and what to do about that because I don’t like … that. And then I’ve been, this, you know, concerned about, oh, how should we deal with the Olympics, because they’re not being nice to the Dalai Lama who is a good friend of mine. And then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?"
Translation = I'm a dumb ass and it's been a while since I showed it off in public.
Apparently Sharon is unable to distinguish between the Chinese government and the Chinese people who have no control over what their government does, since it's, you know, a communist country that allows very little in the way of personal freedom. Idiot.

Nothing inspires new graduates like telling them that their country is going to hell in a hand basket. Luckily we have the Obamessiah to save us all from ourselves.

Demoralized Troops, Hoping For Immediate Pullout Of Iraq, Re-Upping In Record Numbers
Earlier this week ABC ran a story that the troops are backing the Democrats, essentially because they (the Democrats) want to pull out of Iraq. (note: clicking the link also includes Martha Raddatz's interviews with the troops).
I don't think ABC cherry picked soldiers to find Democratic voters, but I do find it suspicious that nearly everyone they interviewed is in favor of candidates that want to withdraw. I was around the military for the first 22 years of my life, and there are people from every political stripe. You know, just like in the rest of the population. But if the troops are really as demoralized as the media tries to protray, see Stop Loss and Lions for Lambs, than why are they reenlisting in record numbers?
3rd ID completes re-up goal in unprecedented time
The 3rd Infantry Division, headquartered at Fort Stewart, Ga., completed its fiscal year 2008 retention goal in less than six months, which most view as a phenomenal act.
This is unprecedented according to the division’s retention sergeant major. “I’ve been in this career field for 16 years, and I’ve never known of a division to meet its goal in such a short time,” said Sgt. Maj. Kelvin Raibon, the 3rd Infantry Division Retention sergeant major.
This is the division’s third deployment to Iraq since 2003, but its high operational tempo did not stop 4,000 Soldiers from re-enlisting. Even more troops will follow their lead, and by the end of March one battalion with the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, out of Fort Benning, Ga., will have met its retention goal twice.
The 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment is four Soldiers away from retaining 200 percent of its goal.
These Soldiers are working together to defend their nation. This is why they joined and why they re-enlisted, said Sgt. 1st Class Thomas Olson, 3rd HBCT senior career counselor.
The 3rd Infantry Division, which is currently the headquarters for Multi-National Division – Center in southwest Baghdad, arrived in theater as part of the Surge. Its Soldiers are serving a 15-month deployment with the combat mission to stop insurgents from bringing bomb-making materials into Baghdad. Within the year, Soldiers have secured most areas, and have begun working closely with the Iraqi Security Forces and tribal leaders to build the economy and make life better for its citizens.
The 3ID is the division that took Baghdad in 2003, went back to Iraq in 2005, and then bore the brunt of the surge in 2007 (Greyhawk, The Mudville Gazette. These are not desk jockeys and cooks, these are boots on the ground, actively engaging the enemy, putting their lives on the line every day. Soldiers that hate what they are doing so much that they are reenlisting to stay and fight at record numbers.
Bet you'll not see a movie about that out of Hollywood any time soon.
Michael Yon has a new dispatch up, and it should be used both as an ad demonstrating the progress being made in Iraq, and also as an ad for gun owner's rights.
Al Qaeda is still trying to spin Iraq into civil war, but whereas in 2005-2006 al Qaeda was succeeding, today al Qaeda is being shredded.
An Iraqi officer near Sinjar told me that recently a group of perhaps twenty “jihadists,” many of them foreign, descended on a Nineveh village. The Iraqi officer said the terrorists killed some adults and two babies. One baby they murdered was 15 days old.
Until recently, such terror attacks inside Iraq could have coerced the village into sheltering Al Qaeda. Yet this time, the “jihadists” got an unexpected reception. Local men grabbed their rifles and poured fire on the demons, slaughtering them. Nineteen terrorists were destroyed. Times have changed for al Qaeda here. Too many Iraqis have decided they are not going to take it anymore. Al Qaeda in Iraq is still fighting, and they are tough and wily, but al Qaeda Central seems to realize there are easier targets elsewhere, perhaps in Europe, where many people demonstrate weakness in the face of terror.
I noticed several things about this.
1. Jihadists are finding it a lot harder to intimidate the people of Iraq. They used to be able to ride in to town, slaughter a few people, and the rest of the town would acquiesce to their demands. Now, the town's people fight back.
2. The town's people didn't just run to the authorities and cry for help or protection. The men of the village took decisive action, running home, grabbing their rifles, and introducing the Jihadis to their virgins. This does not mean I condone vigilantyism in America. However, if the bad guys were to ride into your town, or break into your home, would you be equipped to defend yourself, or would you hide in a closet and call 911, hoping that the police showed up in time?
I've got $5 that says you'll never see this story on the nightly news. Because Iraqis standing up to the bad guys doesn't fit their anti-Bush war agenda.
Remember a few weeks ago when the big name Dems were blaming the California wildfires on global warming and the lack of resources due to the Iraq war? Well, let me remind you what presidential candidate and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson had to say
But as someone who believes the war in Iraq is a complete disaster and that we need to get our troops out now (www.getourtroopsout.com), I look at the natural disaster in California and feel compelled to also ask President Bush and every candidate who thinks it is okay for our troops to remain in Iraq until 2013 or longer - where is our National Guard?
It is a sad irony that yesterday, the very day I sent fire crews to California, 300 more New Mexico National Guard members were sent to Iraq. Just when we need them most at home, more of our brave men and women, true public servants, are sent away to a war we cannot win.
There were also remarks from Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi that I am too lazy to look up that came to the same conclusion; the fires were raging out of control because the evil Boosh had taken all of California's National Guard resources and sent them off to die in Iraq.
It seems that there is a law in California that there must be a state fire spotter riding along with each airplane or helicopter that is engaged in fighting the fire. The Navy and Marines had more aircraft available than the state could deal with, so they left them grounded while they looked for qualified people to ride along and spot the fires.
The state has determined it had enough spotters for the helicopters it knew were available but had to scramble to find spotters for the Marine and some of the Navy helicopters because it wasn't expecting them, Padilla said.
"When we found out how many military and Marine helicopters were available, we put in orders and began trying to find qualified managers that weren't already assigned," he said.
So really, it wasn't that there weren't adequate resources, there were too many resources. The National Guard was too prepared, and the state couldn't deal with it.
If you need me, I'll be over here holding my breath while I wait for Richardson, Pelosi and Boxer to announce that they were wrong, and the stupid rules of engagement for fighting fires were to blame, not the evil Boosh empire.
Metal Storm, an Australian company whose shares have recently skyrocketed on the stock exchange, has developed a robotized killing machine capable of firing more than one million rounds a minute, enough to shred an entire building in the blink of an eye.
One Million Rounds per minute. That is un-fucking-believable. I would love to see that thing in action, decimating an entire building in seconds.
But of course this isn't an article from someone who sees the good sides of this weapon, like this.
But it is the wartime applications that are most disturbing. With Metal Storm’s technology, Coalition soldiers can remain safely behind the front line while the Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UVG) uses sensors and targeting capabilities to attack hostile urban areas.
That, to me, is a good thing. Soldiers stay as far away from the bad buys as possible, while simultaneously finding and destroying said bad guys. This results in fewer good guy deaths, and an ever increasing body count of bad guys. Remind me again why this is a bad thing?
This development could be the turning point in the Iraq occupation which has tainted the enthusiasm of the dwindling number of American pro-war supporters as more than 2,000 soldiers have been killed during an occupation which has resulted in the deaths of more than 100,000 innocent civilians.
Oh, that's right. Because if we're winning the war, there's nothing for the anti-war protesters to, well, protest. They'll look pretty silly carrying around posters that say things like, "We're tired of winning this war. Stop killing the bad guys and come home." Oh, wait. They pretty much do that already, don't they?
The other point is that with such a weapon at the coalition's disposal, it will obviously result in those American cowboys running willy-nilly through the streets, killing anyone with brown skin. Because that's what we're all about. Body counts. It doesn't matter if it's the right people or not, we just want to kill, Kill, KILL!
To prove that point, she points out that the company that manufactures this weapon has stocked its board and management with *gasp* a lot of former US military commanders. I mean, how can we expect this weapon to be used for peace when those blood-thirsty baby killers are running the show. I'm sure it will only be a matter of weeks before a maelstrom of death is rained on the author's own residence as a way of demonstrating the lethality of the ultimate killing machine.

My question for Wanda is this, just how do you propose that all people will live togethre in a free and dignified life if there is no one willing to stop the bad guys? If all the good guys lay down their arms, join hands and sing 60s peace songs, all they accomplish is that they make a good target. Large groups of unarmed peacenicks packed close together means one bullet = multiple kills.
Peace and freedom are the exact reasons why we fight in the middle east. The problem with people like Wanda Fish is that there is never a cause worth fighting for except to stop the good guys from defending themselves.
Without a bit of pressure -- indeed, without the appearance of a care in the world -- Medhi, described in graphic detail the other half of his ISI cell’s operations: running an organized al Qaeda Rape ring in Samarra. With a modus operandi of breaking into various houses and either raping women on the spot or threatening the family with death while taking their daughter away to become a hostage and a sex slave, Medhi, a self-described homosexual who engaged in intercourse (via rape) with women “because other members of this group” did, confessed to his cell’s penchant for abducing girls and “holding them [hostage] just for their pleasure.” Most recently, he said, he had taken part in the rape, kidnapping, and/or killing of five women, three of whom were supposedly still alive.
Among these most recent victims was “a twenty-five year old virgin,” who was “alone in her house” when the al Qaeda leaders “raided” it. Breaking into the house, all five members of the cell held her captive in her own home and raped her repeatedly. Finally, when all five had quenched their base desire for that action which they so brutally prohibited others from humanely engaging in, under the guise of enforcing “true Islamic law,” the terrorists departed, leaving the woman alone in her pain and misery.
If there is such a thing as “getting off easy” for a girl who is gang-raped, this first woman did just that. Two others, both age 23, met a much more gruesome fate shortly after the first, as they were taken from their houses (in front of their families), raped repeatedly by the entire al Qaeda cell, and then slaughtered. According to Medhi, their bodies were buried in a cemetery somewhere in the city.
If you need me, I'll be over here waiting for all the moral outrage. You know, from those who try to paint them as these brave freedom fighters, who only take up arms to fight the oppressive American imperialism. Because they don't fight, rape and murder for the sheer enjoyment of it, do they?
I'll also be holding my breath awaiting all the news stories about "the hypocrisy" of it all. I mean, for the last few weeks you couldn't go 30 seconds without hearing about Larry Craig's hypocrisy because he votes against gay marriage and then tries to get a little glory hole action in an airport restroom. These guys enforce Sharia law, that doesn't allow a woman to even speak to a man to whom she is not related, but they are free to take whatever liberties they want with the women in your family, and then kill her as a way of saying "thanks".
First you have to read Ed's comment on my previous post, then you will understand all that I am responding to here. I'll wait while you make the journey.

This may get long, but I'm going to try to address everything that he brought up.
I'm not perturbed with you. I think you are wrong as you can be about the global war on terror, but should you show up at my door tomorrow, I would invite you in, offer you a cold beer, and we could sit face to face and argue this. It's not personal.
No matter what perspective I use, there are far fewer parallels between our troops and suicide bombers then Ted Rall displays. I can, however, make many more comparisons between suicide bombers and environmental activists. In fact, I think I'll publish my own cartoon by the end of the week doing just that.
I did make fun of the Muslims who not only protested, but threatened death to anyone who dared print the Danish cartoons. The difference is that while I think Red Rall is blithering idiot, I also believe that he is free to peddle his ware wherever he desires. I won't be threatening him with beheading, but I will refuse to buy any paper and/or magazine that carries his cartoons. That's the difference. I vote with my dollars, they threaten to seperate your head from your shoulders. Seems simple enough to me.
Most importantly, and I know you are still a bit preturbed over the last little discussion we had on my blog, exactly what is the difference between a patriot and a terrorist? I'd like to know really what your thoughts are... I mean, essentially, the framers of the constitution could be considered terrorists since they fought against the government of the country at the time... and the men fighting against US and UN forces in Iraq, arguably are not all iraqi, but they ARE fighting for their perceived freedom. The iraqi forces fighting against the occupation are doing exactly what I would expect you to do if a foreign power came in and overthrew our government and tried to install one of their own design... wouldn't you frank?
Terrorist vs. Patriot.
First, let's discuss the founding fathers. They fought against the British government, because they wanted a representative government that guaranteed freedom and liberty for its citizens. They declared their independence, and prepared to defend their rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". But when they wrote the Declaration of Independence, they didn't hide in some cave, issuing orders for their minions to attack while they hid out from the fighting. They didn't wear masks to hide their identities, and they didn't leave prams full of explosives in crowded markets. They didn't execute women and children in an attempt to free themselves from the British. They organized an army, and they fought bravely, but civilly (for the most part), for their independence.
Do I consider the force that we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan to be equivalent to the founding fathers? Short answer; no. The government we overthrew in Iraq was an oppressive, totalitarian regime that regularly executed thousands of its own citizens. Saddam was a threat to the citizens of Iraq, his neighboring nations, and to any free, peace-loving country in the west.
We came in, deposed the dictator, helped the country to organize their own government, ratify a constitution, hold elections where the citizens elected their own government, and are actively training the local army and police force to be self-sufficient so we can leave. If we were occupiers, or imperialists, we would be actively crushing anyone in the country who opposed our will, and we would all be swimming in oil.
The difference between what we are doing there and what would happen should someone invade America are such polar opposites, it all but makes the comparison laughable.
We live in a free society, where we have the liberty to chose our own government. Anyone who invades our country is going to be doing so with the hopes of overthrowing our representative government in order to set up their own dictatorship, or in the case of those fighting in Iraq, their own Islamic theocracy. Anyone who wouldn't take up arms to defend against that type of invader isn't worthy of the freedom they currently enjoy. But again, you wouldn't find mass graves where Americans were kidnapping the invaders, beheading them, and dumping the bodies in shallow graves. Or there wouldn't be video on Liveleak or Youtube of Americans singing "America the Beautiful" while a 12 year old saws off the head of a member of the invading Army. But we've seen both of those things in Iraq, minus America the Beautiful.
When we pushed Saddam's forces out of Kuwait in '91, Bush 41 came under intense fire for not "finishing the job". Why is it that everyone thought that taking out Saddam was such a good idea 16 years ago, but bad now? And why was it that so many in Congress thought that invading Iraq was such a grand idea 4 1/2 years ago, but now want to act like they never had a hand in it? Why was Saddam such a threat just a few years ago, but now everyone thinks that Iraq was some kind of happy playground under him?
In fact, I think it's time to bring this out again. One after the other, Democrats tell us why Saddam was a bad man and should have been acted against. And yeah, they can all claim that Bush lied to them, but listen to current Presidential hopeful John Edwards pontificate about his inside knowledge as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Hillary saying that there cannot be peace in Iraq without regime change. Bet you don't hear anything even close to that from her now.
Anyway, back to your comment.
Those fighting us in Iraq are fighting for anything BUT their perceived freedom. They don't want a free Iraq. The last thing they want is a citizenry that realizes that it has the right to self-determination when it comes to their government. What they want are a people who are scared shitless of what will happen to them should they violate anything imposed under sharia law. They want women who wear the burqa, and men who grow their beards, give up alcohol and cigarettes, bow to Mecca 5 times a day, and promise to help kill the infidel.
One more comparison of our army to theirs. Ted Rall, in his cartoon, makes a reference to religious fervor. Let me ask you this, what religion do you have to be to join the U.S. Army? I'll answer that one for you; there is no religious requirement. Our military is made up of people from every walk of life, and every religion imaginable, standing shoulder to shoulder, fighting for the freedom of the man or woman on each side of him to pray to whomever or whatever he choses to worship. Or to not pray or believe in anything. Let me see you try that as a part of the insurgency. They not only require you to be Muslim, but will actively force you to convert or they will send you to meet Allah.
Now let's look at the treatment of prisoners. Whatever perceived abuse there may or may not have been at Abu-Ghraib, it pales in comparison to what will happen to you should you fall into the hands of our enemies. Our troops know that when you are engaged by the enemy, you win that fight or you die trying, because what they will do to you if you are captured is unspeakable. You will be tortured, and I'm not talking about forcing you to watch them flush a Bible down the toilet. I'm talking about drill bits through your knees or hands, fingers cut off, eyes gouged out, and anything else you can or cannot imagine. But you're never going to hear about that on the nightly news, because it doesn't fit into their preconceived notion that the "insurgents" in Iraq are morally equivalent to our founding fathers fighting the British.
Who do I consider patriots? Patriots are the Sunni's who are coming forward to point out members of Al-Qaeda in Iraq. Patriots go to the polls in Iraq to vote, when they know that if this current fight doesn't succeed, they will most likely end up in a shallow grave somewhere. Patriots are those Iraqis who are putting their lives on the line every day to fight the insurgents who are trying desperately to destabilize the region so that they can move yet another Arabic nation into sharia law.
The mask wearing, IED planting, women and children executing, car bomb driving terrorist we are currently fighting in Iraq are the worst kind of cowards in comparison.
Not long ago my small, southern town came to a grinding halt for the funeral of a young soldier killed in Iraq. I took this picture in front of the funeral home. The Patriot Guard Riders, along with several local vets and members of active duty, were lined down the sidewalk, standing guard over this brave young man's funeral, ensuring he was treated with the dignity and respect he deserved.
Luckily none of the whack jobs from Westboro showed up and everything was as it should be. A nation lost one of its young heroes, a family grieved, and a town came together in support of that family.
I constantly point out that the evening news is not the best place to receive information about what is really going on in Iraq. Now I'm going to give you a few sources you should be checking if you want to know what is really happening.

Operation Arrowhead Ripper is underway. The fighting is not perfect, but we are sending dozens of terrorists off to meet their 72 virgins, so I'm very happy.

Why is it that people are scared of good news? Do they not realize that we are in a war, and winning it would be a good thing. Maybe they ought to try seeing how it's actually going before opening their pie-hole in front of a camera.
Our government is full of some of the most spineless pussies the world has ever seen.
Just not the way we hoped for. They found the first soldier floating in the Euphrates river, and "He was shot so many times in the head and torso that they can’t identify him yet, but naturally they suspect it’s one of the three missing soldiers." Also, he hadn't started to decompose yet, so he hadn't been dead long. Then they found the other two.
Iraqi police forces in Babel province found on Wednesday two bodies believed to belong to two of the kidnapped U.S. soldiers near al-Furat river in al-Musayab region, 50 km northwest of Hilla, a police source said. “Two bodies in U.S. uniform were found by Babel police forces near al-Furat river. They bore signs of torture,” the source, who asked not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). “The police handed the bodies to the U.S. army and cordoned off the area,” he also said. No comment was available from the U.S. army on the incident.
Showed signs of torture, so I'm going to assume there must have been pictures of them in a naked pyramid, or perhaps of a Bible being flushed down the toilet, because that's how we "torture" our prisoners.
I've seen this all over the blogosphere, so I thought I would share it with both of you, too. We've all heard Iraq compared to Vietnam over and over again. Interesting how it really stacks up when you compare the numbers.
Next I would like to see a chart showing number of allied killed in Iraq vs. number of terrorists sent to collect their virgins.
I just finished writing to all of my representatives in Washington, as well as to President Bush. I doubt he'll read it, but I hope my congressmen get the message. Feel free to send it along to your representatives as well.

I write today to express my extreme displeasure with the current funding bill for the war in Iraq. Sitting by and watching as the Democrats in the House put our troops at greater risk by holding their funding hostage is a complete outrage.
I am writing you today to make clear my feelings about the war in Iraq as well as the global war on terror.
Despite what the main stream media and/or any polls tell you, I am firmly in favor of taking the fight to our enemies. Liberating Iraq was the right thing to do. There have been problems along the way, but President Bush has put the right people in place to correct whatever problems may have existed. However, ever since receiving their "mandate" in November, the Democrats have done nothing but obstruct the President's attempts to win this war.
Make no mistake about it, voting for premature withdrawal from Iraq would be a disastrous move for Iraq, our troops, for America, and for any hopes of ever obtaining my vote in another election.
No matter their position on any other issue, I will never again vote for any politician who casts a vote to defund the war or to withdraw our troops before their mission is complete.
The war in Iraq is the single most important issue facing America today. We will either continue the fight in Iraq, or we will withdraw and fight the war on our own streets in the future. The choice is ours, and it is time to stand up to those who refuse to believe that there is never an appropriate time to use force.
The fact that Republicans met with President Bush just this week to express their concern that the war in Iraq may hurt the GOP shows just how little our representatives really understand their constituency. It is not the war with which we have the problem, it is with LOSING the war. No American wants to feel that our soldiers are being sacrificed in vain, and voting to cut funding or to prematurely withdraw our troops is just that, a declaration that all that they have accomplished to this point is for naught.
Please do all that is in your power to do to ensure our troops immediately receive the funding they need to stay safe and to continue to take the fight to our enemy.

Heather Morijah thought she would be cute and order personalized plates for her silver Prius that say "MPEACHW". Someone saw her out driving and complained to the DMV, which then recalled her plates.
The agency “is in receipt of a written complaint about your personalized plates,” the letter says. “With this complaint I am sorry to inform you that the set of plates MPEACHW are being recalled. . . . You will have 10 days from the date of receiving this letter to surrender the plates.”
Long story short, she called the ACLU, had a press conference, and the DMV backed down.
Personally, I agree that she should be able have the plates, no problem. She has every right to drive around looking like a moron. If I passed her car on the interstate, I would do the same thing I do when I pass other morons with "Impeach W" bumper stickers.. shake my head at the lack of education in this country and keep going.
Now we get to the part where I take issue with Ms. Morijah. In explaining why she wants Bush impeached, she had this to say.
“We both feel very strongly about this administration for a large number of reasons. The big number one would be leading us into an imperialistic occupation in Iraq to get their oil, and lying to the American people at the expense of many American lives and many Iraqi lives. And number two, the horrifying damage they’re inflicting on the environment in this country and in the world.”
Imperialistic occupation to get their oil? Really? That's the best you can come up with?
Here's a question for all you nut-jobs who think we invaded Iraq for the sole purpose of taking their oil. How much do you pay per gallon right now? Because a week ago I was paying $3.09. Today it dropped to $2.88, but that is still ridiculous. If we've been stealing their oil for the last four years, why haven't oil prices dropped?
Oh, wait. I know. It's because the evil oil companies are stealing all that oil, but still jacking up the prices to inflate their profits. Silly me, I nearly forgot.
I wonder how these people find their way to work and back each day, because they are, to put it mildly, idiots.
