Road Trip!

I haven't made up my mind yet, but there is a very good chance I will make the road trip to the Gathering Of Eagles on Saturday.

I can't really afford the trip, but I may do it anyway. I feel that strongly about what they're doing.

And now a word about attending the event.
There are two petitions now up online. One for people to sign only if they WILL be at the Gathering of Eagles on March 17th:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/GOE31707/petition.html

The second petition is for those who will be with us in spirit:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/GOE317/petition.html

This will be very helpful in giving us some idea of how many Eagles will be in attendance on the 17th and how many will be supporting us from home.

If you plan to be there, sign in. Those who just can’t attend but stand with us in spirit are asked to sign the second petition.

We need ALL BLOGGERS and WEBMASTERS to get this word out!!

If you encounter problems signing, please persevere and try again later. We need your count!
I'm going to talk to my daughters about this tonight. It'll be a long trip, with very little sleep, but I want them to have the chance to go. I want them to see both sides of a protest and understand that the right to assemble is a fundamental right of all citizens. I doubt they'll go, but I'm really hoping my older daughter goes with me. Well, I wish they both would, but the younger one has a bladder the size of a shot glass, and that gets really annoying after the 500th trip to the porta-john.

I'll keep you updated, but if I go you can expect to see many pictures.

I am unsure what this is about. The website doesn't really offer much in the way of information as to the "why" of the rally.

I can glean that they are going to "protect" the vietnam wall from some sort of vandalism, but I am unsure who exactly is hell bent on destroying a national monument. Apparently, whomever plans on taking the monuments by siege is an elite force of vandals the likes of which have not been seen on these shores since the tea party in boston.

Now, I am all for freedom of speech, so if these ne'er do wells plan on staging a protest using the national monument as a prop, and provided they do not permanently damage the monument, I don't see a problem.

But... if this is just a staged anti-protest, let me just say that all the people who attend in opposition are really doing is drawing undo attention to the very thing they are railing against.

It is like the fanatics that try to ban books from public and private libraries... simply banning a book makes that book among the most sought after pieces of literature available... while if you just let if fester in obscurity, it can't hurt you.

Passion is a lovely thing... passion without understanding is just another way of defining ignorance.

I sat and read through their entire site before making up my mind. They organized with the mission of holding a vigil around national monuments to protect them from violence, nothing more, nothing less. They stress several times that they are not going to antagonize anyone in the anti-war protest, and are asking all participants to avoid confrontation whenever possible. It seems to me to be a class act designed to honor our military and national monuments.

I'm about 95% certain that I'll be attending. Now I have to find out if my daughter is going with me, and I'll start packing.

Is there some anti war rally planned at the same time? I still don't get it... are these national monuments constantly being defaced?

Sorry, should have been more clear. Yes, A.N.S.W.E.R is planning a rally that was originally supposed to kick off in front of the Vietnam War Memorial, which is what prompted the Gathering Of Eagles to start planning to protect it.

This is the vandalism that started it all.
