I'm Shocked. Shocked I Tell You
The faculty of the University of Florida voted to deny Jeb Bush an honorary degree.
How many in academia are of the the liberal persuasion? I would venture to say that it's well north of 75%, and they loathe George W. Given the opportunity to stick it to a member of his family is too good to pass up, no matter if he deserves it or not. Personally I don't know nor do I care if he deserves it. My personal opinion is that honorary degrees are asinine, but maybe I'll change my tune when I'm offered that honorary doctorate.
University officials said they could not recall any precedent for the Senate rejecting the nominees put forth by the Faculty Senate’s Honorary Degrees, Distinguished Alumnus Awards and Memorials Committee.I can think of one good reason why he was the first denied this honor, his last name is Bush.

Eh, doubtful that there is some conspiracy to deny jeb an honorary degree. The guy is a tool of epic proportions... that in itself is reason enough.
I would imagine that the fact that his brother is arguably the worst president to ever hold the office has little to do with it either... jeb is no friend to education and i think that has more to do with it than anything.
I know you probably think ol George is a good president (in my opinion, he isn't and not because of the war...), but clearly if some members of the education industry deny his brother an bs degree (bullshit, not bachelor of science), then it probably has to do more with jeb's historical perspective on education and science in general. For someone who rails against conspiracy theories of the left, you're doing a pretty good imitation.

I have a plethora of problems with Bush and his fiscal policy. I also have problems with the way he handles the media. But worst President ever? Hardly.
I also have no opinion on the job Jeb has done. What caught my eye is that he is the first to ever be denied this "honor" after receiving committee approval.
Anyone that has ever spent any time at all in college knows that the vast majority of profs in this country are liberals. And I don't think it's conspiratorial to point out that there is a large segment of the left that are rabid Bush haters.
Like I said in the post, I think honorary degrees are asinine, and a complete waste of time. I'm also sure Jeb isn't going to lose any sleep over it. But this is typical of how Democrats work, form over substance. Deny Jeb an honorary degree, which means nothing, to stick it to his brother. In the end, they haven't achieved anything except giving Jeb some favorable press.

Hehe... I am sure we could argue "the worst president ever" till we are blue in the face... in terms of where we are now though, and the fact that he has now sunk lower in popularity and confidence polls than any president before, I would say that GW is about as close as you can get to being the worst president ever without being caught with your seminal fluid on an interns dress...
